Colorado Rapids 3 - 3 Philadelphia Union
Tonight's MLS schedule had this match flying under the radar. However, what at face value seemed a dull fixture ended up being one the best matches of the night.1st Half
This fixture featured MLS veteran Conor Casey playing his old club, which Casey tallied 50 goals for over his 5 year stay. The match began slow with Colorado forward Deshorn Brown missing a chance in the 6th minute.
However, the match picked up in the 16th minute when Casey showed his ability to out wit his ex-club's central defender Shane O'Neill. A beautifully weighted ball from the right wing found Casey who used his trademark strength to out muscle O'Neill and neatly tuck away his shot to put the Union up 1-0.
The action continued with Colorado answering in the 18th minute off the left foot of Dillon Serna. Serna out maneuvered two Union defenders and fired home in world class fashion to equalize at 1-1.
Fast forward to the 31st minute and the score was 2-1 in favor of the Union, who went a head after a thunderous header from Sheanon Williams. His header was struck pure and true leaving the Rapid's keeper Clint Irwin with no chance of making a stop.
2nd Half
The second half began slow with Colorado putting some nifty passes together yet boasting no reward. Then, in the 63rd minute, it seemed that Philadelphia had sealed the match yet Sebastien Le Toux's cheeky finish was ruled offside negating the 3-1 advantage.
Despite Colorado's elevated play the Union went ahead 3-1, for real in the 74th, after substitute Andrew Wenger poked home a shot after a sloppy series of play in Colorado's box. From this point on the game became a traditional nail bitter when Michael Lahoud was red carded for a violent and wild high kick to the face of Jared Watts. Dillion Power's converted the awarded penalty to bring the scoreline to 3-2.
After the red card, the attacking chances swung in favor of Colorado. The fixture went from exciting to surreal when danger man Deshorn Brown outclassed his defender and drilled home an inspiring left footed wonder strike to settle the score at 3-3.
The Union struck back and looked poised to capture the victory in the 87th against the run of play. Enter Clint Irwin. The Rapid's keeper made a fictional-like finger tip save to cement this stellar game as a draw.
