USA 2 - 1 Turkey: 5 Things We Learned

1. The Midfield Has Not Been Finalized and its important to remember that they have shifted formations multiple times already.  If they choose to play a more attacking formation then we will see more of Alejandro Bedoya and Brad Davis.  On the other hand playing a 4-2-3-1 will give Kyle Beckerman more time.  Regardless, I look to see Mix Diskerud making a cameo at some point under the hopes he can continue to shine as a substitute.  To ensure Julian Green will flourish it is important we are not so critical with judging his abilities, as anything can happen in the World Cup especially if injuries occur.

2. Fabian Johnson Will Start At Right Back and can bring some attacking talent.  His first half goal, orchestrated by Michael Bradley, was simply a stunner.  The left footed finish was a nice end ti a sequence which displayed how strong the USA can attack when flowing well.  Johnson will be key in both the traditional defensive role and getting involved in the attack.

3. We Will See Kyle Beckerman At Least Once During the Group Stage.  It is no secret Beckerman can provide good minutes yet his role will vary based on the formation.  He fits well with Bradley and gives some serious strength to protecting the central defenders.  He will get at least one appearance in the World Cup as we may see 2-3 different formations during the Group Stage matches.

4.  The First Team Versus Nigeria Will Most Likely Start Versus Belgium, which you already knew. This will be the biggest sign that Klinsmann has founded his potential starters.  Nigeria, who drew Group F, is ranked 44th in the world.  Facing a team who is also appearing in the World Cup will mimic the intensity of the actually matches.  HOWEVER, the squad that starts against Belgium, a closed door scrimmage, will be the starters versus Ghana.

5.  The USA Will Need To Generate Their Own Luck.  Playing hard and limiting the silly errors, will generate the bounces they need.  As seen on Clint Dempsey's goal, getting lucky is being prepared and capitalizing on the chances provided.  Jozy Altidore is due to have a breakout performance and with that said, it will be vital for him to get some lucky breaks versus Ghana, Portugal and those Germans.

Gerard Deulofeu - Winger - 21 years old     Transfer:   FC Barcelona   ->  Everton  Transfer Fee : 4.2 Million Euros  Deulofeu has blinding pace.  His return to Merseyside will be much welcomed after being loaned to the club in 2013-14.  During his first stay he appeared 25 times, tallying 3 goals.  Sidelined due to injury the flashes of brilliance he displayed when healthy was enough for boss Roberto Martinez to complete this permit transfer without hesitation. In my opinion this may end up being the steal of the transfer window.  If he can stay healthy, the combination of his and Kevin Mirallas speed could easily translate into explosive seasons for the pair.  The luxury...

Onward To Villa Park - Manchester United vs. Aston Villa Preview

Tottenham…In Short Manchester United topped Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, kicking off the season with a 1-0 victory.   The lone goal came courtesy of Tottenham as Kyle Walker was "credited" with the bizarre own goal.   United got the result, regardless of how, which is the most important take away. New arrivals Matteo Darmain, Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastion Schweinsteiger and Sergio Romero all saw action as the high profile signs looked like solid additions. Romero stole the show, making crucial stops in the later stages of the match.   Schneiderlin played well aside Michael Carrick, with the pair combining for a pass completion average of 91.55%.   Memphis and Darmain also had strong performances for United, completing 86.2% and 86.1% respectively in their first starts for United.   In a match that did not see Marouane Fellaini (suspended), Marcos Rojo (rest?) David de Gea and Victor Valdes not suite up…signs moving forward s...
