A Song of Rooney and Moyes: A Transfer Is Coming

The contract disputes between reigning EPL Champion's Manchester United and English international Wayne Rooney has been overloading the football press all over the world and recently have taken a sour turn.  Rooney has reached out in the media with the remarks responding to comments David Moyes has made about his future as "angry and confused," according to an article released by ESPN FC this morning, July 16th.  David Moyes was quoted stating, "Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him. I want as many options as possible."  Rooney, who scored 22 goals and tallied 14 assists in 37 total appearances last season, was a constant under ex-boss Alex Ferguson who stepped down as United boss this summer.  The confrontational saga of the two has developed into a mid summer's day time drama.  With Rooney's fuse seeming to shorten the transfer possibilites are beginning to heat up.  On paper this seems a long time coming but there is more than the eye can see.

David Moyes has taken control of one of the best football squads in the entire realm of professional football.  A team which since entering the EPL in it's first season of 1992-1993 has only been coached by one man, Alex Ferguson.  Moyes is attempting to follow in the footsteps of a 13 time Premier League, 2 time Champions League and 5 time FA Cup winning coach.  To say his task is great would be an understatement.

The facts aside, Rooney has been a part of the United first team since his 30 million pound transfer in 2004 from Everton FC.  During Rooney's break through to international stardom he was coached, from 2002-2004 by David Moyes who served as Everton FC boss from 2002-2013.  Since 2002 both men have gone on to have reach great heights by football standards.  Now once again reunited, the two men are fighting like a romantic couple.  To say this is some obscure or twisted revenge plot on Moyes part would be very far fetched.  It does though bring a new light into the contract conflict.

Rooney, who was only 16, was a boy when first being given a starting spot by Moyes at Everton FC.  In his youth, Rooney's ego and ability to control himself were always questioned.  Now 11 years later it seems as if David Moyes is attempting to teach Rooney one final lesson.  According to an article written by Tom Etherington for Goal.com Moyes was quoted as saying, "Manchester United isn’t about Wayne Rooney. Manchester United is about the team, the club."  This statement is almost ironic as Rooney's exist from Everton FC in 2004 seemed to be caused by him labeling himself as to big a talent for Everton.  The plot seems taken from Greek tragedy, one of a teacher trying to teach a pupil a valuable lesson after many years separated.

The drama aside, Moyes realizes the majority of his success in coming seasons will be attributed to his predecessor, Sir Alex Ferguson, since he has been handed a team which he did not assemble.  For Moyes to move the attention off the past and into the future he must make moves in the transfer market to bring in new faces, ones he choices.  If Rooney was to leave it would provide a large addition to the amount Moyes can use on bring in new players while proving an example that he believe's no one is bigger than the club.

There is no clear cut good solution to his conflict.  Losing Rooney would be a major role for players such Kawaga, Cleverly, Welbeck and Chicharito to fill.  As well as potentially losing him to a team currently in the EPL such Chelsea, whose forward Eden Hazard has reached out encouraging the move.  On the other hand Machester United would have more money to pursue the likes of Bacrelona's Cesc Fabregas, Everton's Maurouane Fellani and Laine Baines as well as FC Basel's Aleksandar Dragovic.  Either way Moyes must address this situation before it gets even messier.

Onward To Villa Park - Manchester United vs. Aston Villa Preview

Tottenham…In Short Manchester United topped Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, kicking off the season with a 1-0 victory.   The lone goal came courtesy of Tottenham as Kyle Walker was "credited" with the bizarre own goal.   United got the result, regardless of how, which is the most important take away. New arrivals Matteo Darmain, Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastion Schweinsteiger and Sergio Romero all saw action as the high profile signs looked like solid additions. Romero stole the show, making crucial stops in the later stages of the match.   Schneiderlin played well aside Michael Carrick, with the pair combining for a pass completion average of 91.55%.   Memphis and Darmain also had strong performances for United, completing 86.2% and 86.1% respectively in their first starts for United.   In a match that did not see Marouane Fellaini (suspended), Marcos Rojo (rest?) David de Gea and Victor Valdes not suite up…signs moving forward s...
