January Transfer Guide - Everton FC

Everton FC

Record: 8-9-2
Position: 6th

Under David Moyes, the Toffees are always a mid table side.  However, lacking funding and the lack of bring in big name playmakers, they have a tough time making that jump to being an EPL powerhouse.

Everton is helled together by the shot stopping American standout keeper, Tim Howard.  His ability to keep Everton in almost ever game seems to be the one of the few strong points which needs no alteration.  With speculation surrounding Leigh Baines and Marouane Fellaini's future at the club, they need to finally spend some cash if they want to make a move into the European spot light.  The play of forward Nikica Jelavic has been very uplifting for the side, since his move from Rangers FC he has tallied 15 goals in 31 appearances.  The problem I see with Everton is the heavy reliance on both Jelavic and Howard to support the team.  The addition of Thomas Hitzlsperger in the midfield and the resurgence of Leon Osman has given them a boost in the last few fixtures.  I see the only way to push to Europe is to make a few moves in the January window.  Everton love to win without spending.  Resigning Steven Pienaar from Tottenham for 4.5 million as well as signing forward Kevin Mirallas for 5.2 from Olympiakos, this summer was relativity silent.  Everton has proven they can win but not up to the level David Moyes believes they can achieve.  Here are the moves that will put them into the needed position to qualify for a possible European Champions League spot.

1. Florent Malouda - Chelsea FC

Malouda can still play decently high level football.  The 31 year old has been at Chelsea since 2007 and has always performed when given the chance.  Being used sacredly at Chelsea last year, it appears he is not in the future plans for new gaffer Rafa Benitez, a transfer is looming.  Adding him would bolster the midfield as well as adding another scoring threat.  The transfer fee should not be too high as I value him at around 3-4 million pounds.

2.  Landon Donovan - LA Galaxy

Donovan played well in his loan spells at the club.  The fans love him and most of all he could really jumpstart his career again.  All Landon needs is a new goal, after being the cover boy for MLS since he was in his early 20's, a permanent move to Europe could put the fire back into his play.  He is versatile, able to play in the midfield or as a striker and would not cost that much compared to other options of players in Europe.  I value him at around 3 million pounds.

3.  Demba Ba - Newcastle United

This move should happen, however Chelsea look to win the race to the in form forward.  If Moyes wanted to qualify for the Champions League and really wantws to bring bigger name players to the club then its time to go after one.  If they can trigger his 7.5 million pound release clause while out bidding Chelsea, they could be looking at a possible top 4 finish.
