Match of the Week:  Barcelona 7-1 Bayern Leverkusen

Lionel Messi was, for a lack of words, brilliant as Barcelona smashed Bayern Leverkusen.  Messi tallied a remarkable five goals, a total which set a new Champions League record for most goals scored in a single game.

The Argentine opened his tally in the 25th minute with a wonderful chip shot and added another in the 42nd minute, then bagged two more within 15 minutes after half-time.  With the game nearing its end, he once again thrilled with a solo effort.  Messi gathered the ball at the top of the box and cut onto his left foot, before he hammered a laser into the left side of the net to claim his fifth.

The offensive explosive means Barcelona advanced into the quarterfinals 10-2 on aggregative, and look poised as ever to be headed to another Champions League final.
